I recall that when The Winans, who were pioneers in this field, first appeared, the term "Contemporary Gospel" hadn't yet become widespread. Looking back now, it feels like that category was created for them, Commissioned. It might sound like a bit of a stretch, but as an amateur, I don't think it's entirely wrong. The group later became even more powerful with member changes, but just the name of Fred Hammond, the central figure, was enough to satisfy me personally. Due to my complete lack of knowledge, I had thought this album, released in '88, was their debut, but it turns out to be their fourth. I'm reflecting on this now. This album is currently hard to find, so please get it while you can.
② This album was also talked about (or at least, I hope it was) because Boyz II Men's Wanya Morris and Shawn Stockman were involved in the production.
